Actress Lisa Edelstein was thrilled to learn her new Tv series Girlfriends' Guide To Divorce stirred up controversy with its banned advertisements, insisting it was "the best publicity" the show received.

Last month (Nov14), posters featuring Edelstein holding up her ring finger alongside the tagline, "Go find yourself", a humorous take on the rude phrase "Go f**k yourself", were banned from city buses and subways in New York and Los Angeles.

While officials deemed the ads for the divorce drama "inappropriate", Edelstein is adamant it was good for the show.

During an interview on U.S. late night chat show Watch What Happens Live on Monday (01Dec14), she said, "I thought it was amazing. It was the best publicity that we could have possibly gotten. It's so strange that that was a threat to somebody.

"On one news affiliate, it was called an 'attack on the very fabric of society because it was against the sanctity of marriage,' because a woman was like that (held up ring finger). That's so nutty."

Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce premiered in the U.S. on Tuesday (02Dec14).
