Lupita Nyong'o insists she doesn't feel pressure to be a style icon after wearing a number of head-turning gowns at this year's Hollywood awards season.
Lupita Nyong'o doesn't feel pressure to be a style icon.
The '12 Years a Slave' actress, who has dazzled on the red carpet during a triumphant awards season in Hollywood, took home another gong on Saturday (18.01.14) at the Screen Actor Guild Awards, where she picked up the accolade for Female Actor in a Supporting Role.
She told E! News: ''No, I actually don't feel the pressure because for me my first love is acting. And that's where my focus is.
''I've loved the opportunity to learn about the fashion world and appreciate it as an art form, and I look forward to my continued education, but I never want it to take over my acting.''
The 30-year-old star wore another head-turning gown at the awards at the Shrine Auditorium, choosing a teal Gucci number, and was last week named Best Dressed at the 2014 Golden Globes by E!'s 'Fashion Police' for her caped red Ralph Lauren dress.
Lupita was surprised by the reaction to her choice of wardrobe, saying: ''I heard some of it. I was pleasantly surprised! It felt good.''
She thanked those closest to her during her acceptance speech for keeping her grounded after being catapulted to fame in recent months.
Lupita enthused: ''I also wanna thank my family, who have kept it real. My dad, he was the first person I called when I got this role, and I said to him, 'Daddy, do you know Brad Pitt? I'm going to be in a movie with him.'
''And he said, 'I don't know him personally, but I'm glad you got a job.' So am I!''
