Michael Barrymore - Michael Barrymore Attempted Suicide
British entertainer Michael Barrymore attempted to take his own life by downing handfuls of pills during a deep depression.
The funnyman, who became a household name in Britain presenting game shows such as Strike It Lucky, fell from grace after a man was found dead in his swimming pool in 2001, and he was back in the headlines in 2011 when he was arrested and fined for cocaine possession.
Barrymore, 62, has now opened up about the tough times he endured, confessing he has been hospitalised after a number of suicide attempts.
He tells British Tv host Jeremy Kyle, "I've been taken off to the hospital a couple of times. Pills, too many pills, just chuck a load in my mouth... I bought them from the chemist. I think that was a cry for help... Four years ago. I'm a good boy now... I'm obviously not successful at it (suicide) because I'm here... I'll tell you what I did learn... When you're in the depths and the throes of your depression and your addiction, I end up in the corner of the room staring at the wall and it doesn't matter how big the house is or how small the flat is, you end up in exactly the same spot (thinking) what's the point?"
