The 'Modern Family' cast have been nominated for four Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards.

The stars of the ABC sitcom are in the running for the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, as well as individual gongs for Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series category, and Julie Bowen for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series.

Elsewhere in the television categories, 'Game of Thrones' received three nominations along with 'Boardwalk Empire', while 'Homeland' and 'The Sons of Anarchy' also gained nods.

Benedict Cumberbatch is the only actor to have been nominated in both a television and film category, receiving recognition for his role as Alan Turing in the logician's biopic 'The Imitation Game', as well as being shortlisted for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for 'Sherlock'.

In the film category, 'Birdman' will compete for four prizes including the Outstanding Performance by a Cast category, with individual nods have been given to Michael Keaton, Edward Norton and Emma Stone for their roles in the movie.

The stars face tough competition for the Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role awards, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Steve Carell battling against each other, while Jennifer Aniston, Rosamund Pike and Reese Witherspoon are among the actresses up for the Female Actor prize.

The nominees were announced by 'The Fault in Our Stars' actor Ansel Elgort and 39-year-old actress Eva Longoria in Los Angeles on Wednesday (10.12.14), in preparation for the ceremony which will be televised from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 25 2015.
