Pet Shop Boys star NEIL TENNANT and fashion mogul Ozwald Boateng have joined forces in a bid to halt the demolition of London's fabled Earls Court arena.

Developers, who have taken over the west London site, are planning to knock it down as part of a major revamp, but they are facing opposition from locals and stars who love the Art Deco exhibition and concert venue.

They want the old place to be restored, not replaced and in a letter to the Evening Standard newspaper, Tennant, Boateng and comedian Tracey Ullman are calling on the developers to rethink their plans.

The letter reads: "Trade shows, product fairs, artists, musicians and performers hold this venue in high esteem because it offers an unrivalled space in a central location. The substantial loss of income to local traders and to London as a whole is inexcusable."

The venue opened to the public in 1937 and has hosted the 2012 London Olympics, the Brit Awards and performances by Oasis, The Rolling Stones and Radiohead.
