Jersey Shore star Mike 'the Situation' Sorrentino has been ordered to stay away from alcohol and drugs as a condition of his bail as he awaits trial for tax fraud.

The reality Tv star, who checked into rehab in 2012 for a painkiller addiction, and his brother Marc were indicted on Wednesday morning (24Sep14), and turned themselves in to federal authorities in New Jersey hours later.

Sorrentino has since been charged and released on $250,000 (Gbp156,000) bail.

As part of his freedom bid, he must submit to random drug testing and surrender his passports, according to Tmz.com.

He is facing up to nine years in federal prison after allegedly failing to pay full taxes on earnings of $8.9 million (Gbp5.56 million).

Prosecutors claim Sorrentino intentionally filed fraudulent paperwork to hide his debts to America's Internal Revenue Service over the last four years.
