Reese Witherspoon will no longer star in 'The Intern'.

The 37-year-old actress was set to appear in the Nancy Meyers' movie alongside Robert De Niro after it was bought by Warner Bros. but has decided to drop out.

According to Variety, scheduling was an issue for Witherspoon and sources say 'Bridesmaids' star Kristen Wiig could be brought in to replace the 'Legally Blonde' actress, although an offer is yet to be made at this stage.

In the film, Witherspoon would have played the founder of a successful fashion website who is urged to take part in her company's Senior Intern Program.

A widower and former businessman (De Niro) turns up with a suit and briefcase and the pair end up clashing over business values before he becomes a mentor for the young entrepreneur.

The cast were set to start shooting 'The Intern' this month with the aim of an early 2015 release date.

Originally the movie was set up at Paramount with Michael Caine and Tina Fey expected to play the lead roles, but Meyers then had to repackage it due to budgeting issues.

Film director Meyers has worked on the likes of 'What Women Want', 'Something's Got To Give' and 'It's Complicated' in the past.

De Nero, 70, is currently promoting new movie 'Grudge Match' with Sylvester Stallone and is thought to still be attached to 'The Intern'.
