Ryan Murphy In Talks For Funny Girl Revival With Lea Michele
The current season of the Golden Globe-winning programme features Michele's character Rachel Berry living out her dream role as Fanny Brice in a Broadway revival of the popular Barbra Streisand musical, and now Murphy has confirmed reports that he is in fact in talks to bring art to life on the real Great White Way.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Murphy divulges, "I have the rights to it (Funny Girl). It's something that we're talking about. I've never done Broadway. I've always wanted to. Right now, we're just sort of testing the waters with different people."
But Murphy and his leading lady are in no rush to take on Broadway. The writer/director adds, "Lea and I have made no mistake of our mutual love for that property, so if it could come together at a time that she'd be willing to make that commitment to go back to Broadway - which I don't know that she is right now - it would have to be the right director and the right leading man."
Michele is no stranger to the stage - she has appeared in four previous Broadway productions, including Spring Awakening, which won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2007.
