Health and safety officials have warned organisers of Scotland's leading music festival T in The Park to move the event to avoid a potential threat from radiation.

The annual music showpiece, which was headlined by Rihanna and The Killers last year (13), is due to take place in July (14) with British rockers Arctic Monkeys leading the bill.

However, members of Britain's Health and Safety Executive (Hse) have warned organisers they need to move the event from its home in Balado, Kinross-Shire due to its close proximity to an underground oil pipeline.

Hse officials suggest an accident could cause "a large number of casualties" and result in revellers receiving "a dangerous dose of thermal radiation".

They have allowed the 2014 festival to continue as planned, but they want future events to be moved away from the pipeline.

A spokeswoman for the company behind the festival, DF Concerts, insists organisers hope to shift the site away from the pipeline without relocating to a different home, adding that safety is always their top priority: "Throughout the years T in The Park has gone through a meticulous system of planning and safety checks which we have always passed, including this year. Nothing has changed in the last few years except Hse protocol. The pipeline remains in the same position as always... (We will be) reorienting parts of the site to move away from the exclusion zone."
