Country star Sheryl Crow is clearing out her closet to raise money for a hunger charity over the holidays.

The singer, a longtime supporter of the Feeding America organisation, has placed a slew of designer shoes, handbags and hats up for auction on eBay.com to boost funds for charity bosses, who will be doing all they can to help feed the homeless and put food on the table for poverty-stricken families this Christmas.

Crow, who lives in Nashville, Tennessee, explains, "After having volunteered in Nashville, you see the kind of people who come into the food bank. It's not just homeless people, it's moms who are struggling to feed their kids; it's people who are out of work. It's a really necessary entity for a lot of people who are just trying to make ends meet."

Among the items up for sale include a pair of black leather Prada boots, a new alligator-embossed leather Coach bag, a pair of Ralph Lauren gardening boots, and a black-and-white Fendi bag.

Discussing her decision to sell off her belongings, she says, "It makes you feel so grateful to have what you have and to be able to help someone else - the feeling that I get from that is much bigger than anything else that I could experience.

"It just matters that we take care of each other in our lives."

The auctions will run until 11 December (14).
