Simon Cowell wants to get two new dogs.

The music mogul is a massive animal lover and has decided he wants to adopt two pooches when he gets back to his home in Los Angeles after he completes his current work commitments in London.

He wrote on Twitter: ''I am going to get two dogs when I get back. Probably cairn terriers. If any rescue shelters have some who need a home let me know.''

Perhaps Simon wants to get some pets before the birth of his first child with his girlfriend, American socialite Lauren Silverman, to make his house more family friendly.

The 53-year-old star has often spoken about his love for animals and was thrilled in 2012 when Ashleigh Butler and her performing dog Pudsey were crowned the winners of TV show 'Britain's Got Talent'.

He said at the time: ''I love dogs, I love animals and I really like Ashleigh. They deserve it. That dog will become the most famous dog in the world.''

Simon even created British TV series 'That Dog Can Dance' to find more talented canines.

Meanwhile, it has been reported Simon and Lauren are expecting a son together.

The 'X Factor' boss and his newly divorced girlfriend - who already has a seven-year-old son, Adam, with her ex-husband Andrew Silverman - are thrilled that they are set to welcome a little boy into the world in February.

A source close to the couple told the New York Daily News newspaper's Confidenti@l column: ''He is over the moon to be having a son.''

Simon, may I suggest a possible alternative to a cairn terrier if none are available. Miniature schnauzers are the most amazing little lovers you've ever seen. They want to be right in your lap if they can, and at least I can speak for the one we had--he would have loved a baby!!! Schnauzers are a German terrier. They do have a history of health problems, but the fact that you could afford the vet care would make you a good Doggy-daddy. Check them out. We didn't know how special they were until we rescued one, and you'd love them almost as much as they'll love you!!!
