Wallace And Gromit creator Nick Park has helped raise $3.4 million (£2.3 million) for a children's hospital in England following the auction of dozens of huge sculptures of the beloved Plasticine pet pooch.

Eighty-one different versions of animated dog Gromit, made famous from Park's hit movies including The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, went on display across Bristol, England over the summer.

The Gromit Unleashed collection attracted huge crowds to the city, and on Thursday night (03Oct13), fans of the dog raced to buy up the sculptures as they went under the hammer.

The designs eventually pulled in a huge $3.4 million, which will be donated to help fund the expansion of Bristol Children's Hospital.

Park says, "I don't usually get to see the audience, it was great on the trail to see families and kids running up and embracing the Gromits.

"It's all been summed up tonight. People have really put their money where their mouth is and shown how much they care for the children's hospital and I guess, for Gromit too. He's done well that lad, I'm very proud to lend my dog."
