Terminally-ill rocker Wilko Johnson's public engagements have been cancelled after he underwent major surgery on Wednesday (30Apr14).

The former Dr. Feelgood star was given just months to live after doctors discovered he was suffering from inoperable pancreatic cancer in January, 2013.

The musician continued to defy medics' predictions by performing live and recording new songs, and he even signed on for a set at this year's (14) Glastonbury festival in June (14).

However, Johnson underwent a major operation on Wednesday and his upcoming commitments have been cancelled.

In a statement, his management team says, "(He has had) a medical procedure that will see him out of action for the foreseeable future. As a result he's cancelled all public engagements. Doctors are hopeful that following the surgery the prognosis for Wilko will be positive."

Before being admitted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, England for the procedure, Johnson had told GQmagazine.co.uk of his deteriorating health, saying, "The tumour got bigger. It went from a walnut to a beer gut. And it makes it difficult to play guitar because my guitar rocks on it. And as the tumour gets bigger, it made my guitar stick out more and more... There is a small chance of dying (from the surgery). But that's nothing. Because for over a year I have been living with a 100 per cent chance of dying."
