Last year's Super Bowl game was the most-watched television program in U.S. history; this year's may even be bigger. In a poll conducted for the Hollywood Reporter by Penn Shoen Berland, 78 percent of respondents said that they plan to watch Sunday's telecast, an increase of 6 percent from 2010 and 10 percent from 2009. While, as expected, 89 percent of male TV viewers plan to watch The Game between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers, 68 percent of women said that they also plan to watch it. But for men, Super Bowl Sunday has become the second most important day of the year, according to the poll, exceeded only by Christmas. It outranks their anniversary, birthday and Thanksgiving. The poll also noted that respondents were pleased that the game was going to be carried by Fox this year, saying that Fox does the best job of broadcasting NFL games. The trade publication did not indicate the size of the sample used in the Penn Soen Berland poll.
