Susan Boyle - Susan Boyle Defeats Kanye In Billboard Chart Battle
Susan Boyle, the 49-year-year Scottish singing sensation who rose to fame after appearing on the UK's hit reality show 'Britain's Got Talent', has returned to the top of the Billboard album chart after Kanye West's new record lasted only a week at number one, reports the New York Times.
It has been almost a month since Boyle released her second album 'The Gift', but last week it sold 272,000 copies, and enough to see it regain the top spot. West's new album, 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy', had initially replaced 'The Gift' as No.1, but its reign at the top of the chart lasted only one week and it fell six places, allowing Boyle to regain the crown. The controversial rapper sold 108,000 copies of the album, a 78% drop from its first week. Elsewhere in the chart, Taylor Swift's 'Speak Now' is No. 2 after selling just short of 200,000 copies, and Jackie Evancho's 'O Holy Night' is down to No.3.
It had been expected that the Black Eyed Peas would enter at No.1 with their new album, 'The Beginning', but surprisingly the group only managed No. 6, selling 119,000 copies. British band Florence and the Machine benefitted from having their song 'Dog Days Are Over' covered on the hit show Glee, their album 'Lungs' rose almost 30 places to 54th.
