Susan Boyle, the 49-year-old Scottish singing sensation, is set to do battle with the American country musician Taylor Swift in the US music charts, with both artists releasing their much anticipated new albums.
In was reported earlier in 2010 that both acts would be bringing out new records around the same time, and back in 2009 Swift's 'Fearless' edged past Boyle's debut album 'I Dreamed a Dream' to top the charts. The 20-year-old's new record 'Speak Now' hit shelves two weeks ago, easily reaching number-one, however, Boyle's Christmas album 'The Gift' was released on 8th November 2010, and the star of 'Britain's Got Talent' is looking to take her place at the top of the charts. According to the Los Angeles Times, experts are currently predicting that 'Speak Now' will drop from its million-plus weekly sales to around 250,000 in its third week, which could allow 'The Gift' to enter at number-one. Boyle's first album sold 700,000 copies in its first week.
Boyle recently shot the video for her new song, 'Perfect Day', in Loch Lomond, Scotland. Lou Reed, the Velvet Underground frontman who initially denied Boyle the right to sing the cover of his song live, had a creative role in the video and has since given the 49-year-old permission to perform the 1972 classic.
