Taylor Swift appears to have been caught saying ''shut the f**k up'' as One Direction were thanking fans for their support at the MTV VMAs.

The 23-year-old singer - whose short romance with teenage heartthrob Harry Styles ended bitterly in January this year - was seen making the foul-mouthed remark while sitting beside Selena Gomez, when the boys were on stage to present the award for Best Pop Video during the Video Music Awards in New York City this weekend.

The boy band - which includes Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Harry Styles - were introducing the award which ironically Selena won.

Later, when Taylor won the Best Female Video prize for her smash hit single 'I Knew You Were Trouble' - which was written about curly haired hunk Harry - she dedicated her award to him.

She said: ''I want to thank the fans because I tweeted about this a lot, I really wanted this.

''I also want to thank the person who inspired this song because he knows exactly who he is, because now I've got one of these.''
