Veteran British actor Terence Stamp is still kicking himself after snubbing the chance to star in the Oscar-winning 1967 movie musical Camelot.

The Superman star reveals director Joshua Logan made a personal plea to Stamp to portray the role of medieval King Arthur opposite leading lady Vanessa Redgrave as his wife Guenevere, but he turned the role down over fears his vocals were not good enough - and it's a decision he will forever regret.

He tells New York Post columnist Cindy Adams, "I actually have only one career regret. Turning down Josh Logan's role of king in the Camelot film.

"In a restaurant, he got down on one knee and begged me. I refused it from fear. Didn't think my voice would hold out. I've forever regretted saying no."

Richard Harris was eventually cast as the legendary English king and the film went on to win three Academy Awards.

Stamp stars alongside Redgrave in upcoming film Unfinished Song.
