Actor Terrence Howard has been evicted from his New York apartment and slapped with a lawsuit over allegations of overdue rent.

The Iron Man star's lease on his Manhattan home came to an end in November last year (12), but he reportedly continued to live at the property rent-free until he was formally kicked out in May (13).

Now his landlord is taking court action against Howard in a bid to claim back money for the additional months he stayed on at the pad.

The property owner is suing for an unspecified amount in compensation, in addition to legal fees, according to Tmz.com.

The lawsuit is the latest trouble for Howard - he's also in the midst of a legal battle with his ex-wife, Michelle Ghent, who has obtained a restraining order against him amid allegations of physical assault.

He has denied the claims and insists he was the real victim as Ghent reportedly maced and threatened to kill him, his adult daughter and son-in-law during a family vacation last month (Jul13).

The former couple split in 2011 after a year of marriage.
