The Avengers star Clark Gregg's acting career came full circle when he accepted a part in Joss Whedon's modern adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing because he started out in the Shakespeare play.

The movie star, who plays Agent Phil Coulson in the Marvel Studios films, reunited with his The Avengers director to portray Leonato in the quirky new movie and admits the project brought back a lot of happy memories.

He tells Wenn, "Much Ado was the gateway to my whole shebang. I was playing soccer at a small school in Ohio. I was a goalie and I dislocated my thumb and they kind of banned me from practice. And I was walking past the (campus) theatre and I saw some very attractive students walking in and I followed them and it was an audition for Much Ado About Nothing.

"They foolheartedly gave me the role of Benedick and I delivered them a legendary Christmas ham!

"This time around, I was quite daunted by the process... but it was a profound gift. I just went over to Joss' house to see if he was Ok after shooting The Avengers. Days later he asked me to play Leonato."
