The Band Perry were the surprise winners at last night's Acm Awards in Las Vegas, reports CBS News.
The band claimed the award for 'Best New Artist' at the country music awards, just minutes after performing their hit song 'If I Die Young'. The family group that consists of two brothers and one sister also scooped the award for 'Top New Vocal Duo or Group' before the live ceremony began. Singer Kimberly Perry was overjoyed with the band's success, saying, "We believe that country music is the people's music. And it is our greatest desire to be their band". The band released their self-titled album on 20th October 2010, which has since spawned the hit singles 'Hip To My Heart', 'You Lie' and the platinum single 'If I Die Young'. Band member Reid Perry recently spoke to Cmt.com about the road leading up to the Acm Awards, saying, "We don't take this moment for granted. We're still not totally aware of the impact that song 'If I Die Young' had for us. When people come see us play ... we're still not used to that".
The Band Perry were also nominated for an award at this year's Grammy Awards but lost out to LADY ANTEBELLUM.
