The Coral frontman James Skelly has been forced to postpone a series of U.K. shows with his new band after falling sick with a viral infection.

The star has axed two gigs with his side project James Skelly & The Intenders as he has been unable to sing, and doctors warned him not to rush back to work too quickly.

The band has called off shows in Liverpool and Birmingham, England so Skelly can recover.

A statement posted on the band's Facebook.com page reads, "We're really sorry to announce that tomorrow night's (11Jun13) show in Birmingham has now been postponed. Following the postponement of the Liverpool show the doctor has today advised James not to perform tomorrow night in order to 100 per cent recover from a virus that has left him unable to sing.

"We're already looking to reschedule the show along with Liverpool... All other shows... will go ahead as planned. James & the band are extremely frustrated by the postponements... and can't wait to get back on the road to complete the rest of the tour & the rescheduled dates."

The group is due to continue the tour in London on Wednesday (12Jun13).
