The Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O'Riordan has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a crew member on a flight from the U.S. on Monday (10Nov14).

The singer, who was travelling from New York City to her native Ireland, was detained by police officers after the Aer Lingus flight touched down at Shannon Airport.

Cops were called to meet the aircraft following allegations the star attacked a female staff member onboard the plane. A police officer was also allegedly assaulted in the course of the arrest. The airline stewardess was hospitalised following the incident, according to the Bbc.

O'Riordan, 43, was taken to a local police station for questioning.

A spokesman for Aer Lingus says, "An incident took place on board flight Ei 110 en route from New York to Shannon. The matter is being investigated by (the Irish police). As this is a security matter we will not comment any further."
