Cribs Star 'Lucky To Be Alive' After Awards Tomfoolery

The Cribs rocker Ryan Jarman is "lucky to be alive" after seriously wounding himself at the NME Awards in London last month (FEB06). The British star was left with a deep glass cut around his left hip when he dived across a table covered in bottles in a bid to retrieve Franz Ferdinand's Best Live Band Award from members of Kaiser Chiefs. Jarman says, "The doctors said I'm lucky to be alive. I had no idea that anything was wrong until I put my hand on my back and my fingers slipped inside. "When something's that deep, it severs all of the nerve endings so I didn't feel it. It seemed a good idea at the time and it still does. "I don't regret it at all. I walked out of the treatment room and I saw Duncan - but his injury was a lot more comedy than mind. He broke his arm arm-wrestling, that's a weird thing to do." Jarman wasn't the only musician injured that night - Maximo Park guitarist Duncan Lloyd broke his arm at a hotel party following the bash.
