The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins is determined to prove his band's critics wrong with their second album - even though he's struggling to compose potentially chart-topping tunes.

The I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED LOVE singer is convinced the British music industry is hoping The Darkness' second disc will flop, because the rockers initially confounded critics by making retro stadium rock popular again.

He says, "I think the British music industry has learnt from what we've done and said, 'Right, we've learnt from them now let's discard them.'

"Well f**k you. We're coming back and there's nothing you can do about it."
