The Darkness is now a glam rock trio after bassist Frankie Poullain sensationally quit the band after only one album.

The English group leapt to international fame in 2003 with a string of hit singles and their debut album PERMISSION TO LAND hit the number one spot in their native Britain.

In February 2004, the I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED LOVE hitmakers picked up Best British Album, Best British Group and Best Rock Act at the Brit Awards, followed by an IVOR NOVELLO songwriters gong in May (05).

A spokesman for the band says, "With immediate effect bass player Frankie Poullain is no longer member of The Darkness.

"Remaining members (JUSTIN and Dan Hawkins, ED GRAHAM) have cited musical differences as the reason for his departure.

"A replacement will be announced within the coming months."

Poullain was popular with fans for his pirate-style wardrobe and trademark walrus moustache.
