Troubled Libertines frontman Pete Doherty pleaded not guilty to charges of possessing an offensive weapon in London yesterday (29JUN04).

The British singer, who is currently fighting an addiction to crack cocaine, was arrested in east London on 17 June (04) after he returned from Thailand, where he had a brief unsuccessful stay in a Buddhist rehabilitation centre.

The rocker was stopped by police for a suspected driving offence, when they allegedly found a knife in his possession.

At the THAMES MAGISTRATES COURT, Doherty - accompanied by the band's manager ALAN McGEE - pleaded not guilty and will have to return to court on 10th August (04) for a preliminary hearing.
