Dwayne Johnson will be named Action Star of the Year at CinemaCon.

The 39-year-old actor - who also wrestles in the WWE under the name The Rock - will receive the honour on the final night dinner at the film convention, which runs from April 23 to 26, at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

CinemaCon general manager Mitch Neuhauser said: ''An exciting performer who first gained attention from audiences around the world when he developed the iconic character The Rock, Dwayne Johnson has taken his charismatic presence to the big screen and has proven over and over again that he can entertain audiences of all ages - whether it be an action-paced film or a family comedy.

''He thrills audiences around the world with exhilarating performances that leave them on The Edge of their seats, and I cannot think of someone more worthy of being named the CinemaCon Action Star of the Year.''

Dwayne's current movie 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' - which features Sir Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson and Vanessa Hudgens - sees him portray explorer Hank Parsons, and his next role will see him star as Roadblock in 'G.I. Joe: Relaliation' later this year.

The wrestler's first major movie role saw him portray The Scorpion King in 2001 film 'The Mummy Returns', leading to his first titular role in 2002 spin-off 'The Scorpion King'.
