Sir Cliff Richard has been left ''very disappointed'' over Morrissey's cancelled tour.

The 73-year-old singer - who was due to support the former Smiths star at an upcoming gig in Brooklyn, New York later this month - is no longer performing at the venue after the 'Hang the DJ' star postponed the show due to ill health.

A note posted on his website said: ''Cliff and the CRO (Cliff Richard Organisation) are very disappointed to confirm that Morrissey has just cancelled the remaining dates on his tour, including the Barclay Center, Brooklyn, NYC on 21st June 2014 where Cliff was to perform as Morrissey's Special Guest.

''The CRO apologies for the inconvenience to fans and wishes Morrissey a full and speedy recovery.''

Morrissey, 55, made the announcement on his official fan site True To You today (11.06.14) after pulling out of a number of other US gigs due to infection earlier this month.

The post read: ''In the interest of making a full recovery, all further touring plans have been halted.

''Morrissey thanks his fans for their compassion, understanding, and well-wishes during this difficult period as he recuperates.''

Meanwhile, Cliff has previously spoken of his surprise at being asked to join the 'Everyday Is Like Sunday' singer's tour.

He said in February: ''I was surprised myself when I got the call. I told my management, You'd better check this out because we're poles apart, really. I was worried it might be a joke.''
