Orlando Bloom's performance in his new movie was inspired by Ian Brown and Oasis.

The actor stars with Juliette Lewis in 'Sympathy for Delicious' as the frontman of an aspiring rock band and he studied the stage presence of his favourite musicians in order to make his portrayal convincing.

Asked who inspired his performance, he said: "I was thinking of some of the great musicians in England who came from the North. There's The Beatles and The Stones and stuff, but for me, my generation had Ian Brown from The Stone Roses and the Gallagher brothers from Oasis.

"They had that attitude of, 'We are the best f**king band in the world! We don't give a s**t what anyone says, or whatever anyone else is doing. We are the band.' It was that front for that 'I'm going to have it' energy that was something that I really thought would be great for this character. There were some particularly hard lines of dialogue to put across, so that really helped me."

As well as his musical heroes, Orlando was also inspired by his co-star Juliette - who has fronted her own rock band, The Licks - when recording his vocals.

He said: "When we were in Guadalajara, I picked her brains. She went in to sing before me and it was just like, "Wow!" That was how to do it, and I was ripping her off.

"It was so much fun, I can't even begin to tell you. Obviously, I'm not a singer. I don't consider myself a singer. It was so great to just let it rip and have the freedom of just wailing and doing that."
