The Streets frontman MIKE SKINNER has vowed to boycott the MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE ceremony in London this September (04) - despite being the hot favourite to win.

The DRY YOUR EYES singer's refusal to attend the prestigious event is not a snub to the Mercury Prize itself, but a matter of principle to the famously-camera shy celebrity.

His spokesperson explains, "Mike's always said he would never go to an awards ceremony and he won't be changing his mind.

"We hope it doesn't affect his chances of winning."

The Streets' album A GRAND DON'T COME FOR FREE will compete against records by Franz Ferdinand, BELLE + SebastiAn, Joss Stone and Jamelia.
