Rock legend Roger Daltrey was made a Commander Of The British Empire (CBE) by British royal Queen Elizabeth II yesterday (30DEC04) for his services to music, the entertainment industry and charity.

The 60-year-old star felt unworthy of the prestigious honour, despite fronting iconic mod band The Who for 40 years, and raising more than $4 million (GBP2 million) for his charity, the TEENAGE CANCER TRUST (TCT), by organising a series of star-studded concerts at London's Royal Albert Hall.

The PINBALL WIZARD singer says, "I'm so very pleased. It's really great to be honoured by my country. I feel undeserving of such an honour."

A spokeswoman for the TCT adds, "Roger is the most amazing patron for the charity and has helped so many young people.

"He became involved with the trust because a lot of The Who's success was down to teenagers supporting the band, and he wanted to give something back to them."
