Fans of rockers The Who are set for a good 2005 - the group have announced tentative plans to release a new studio album in the spring.

In a posting on his website, guitarist Pete Townshend teases fans by telling them the group's first studio release of new material since 1982 may be called WHO2.

He writes, "Roger (DALTREY) and I will meet in mid-December (04) to play what we have written. If we move ahead from there, we may have a CD ready to release in the spring.

"If the recording works out, we will tour with the usual band in the first half of 2005."

Meanwhile, busy Townshend is at work on a variety of other projects, including an animated movie and his autobiography, which will include details of his 2003 arrest on child pornography charges.
