Dark Shadows star Johnny Depp may be the highest paid actor in Hollywood, though he admits life hasn't always been rosy behind the scenes. Depp's parents divorced when he was just 15-years-old and the actor says "emptiness" took over him until right up until he had children of his own.
Depp has two kids with his long-time partner Vanessa Paradis, 12-year-old Lily-Rose and 10-year-old Jack, though the actor told the UK's Sun newspaper, "You grow up a bit damaged or broken then you have some success but you don't know how to feel good about the work you're doing or the life you're leading", adding, "You feel empty. I was angry and frustrated until I started my own family and my first child was born. Until then I didn't really appreciate life the way I should have, but fortunately I woke up". Depp plays vampire Barnabas Collins in Tim Burton's forthcoming 'Dark Shadows' - his eighth collaboration with the director. The pair have already scored huge success with the likes of Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride, Ed Wood and Edward Scissorhands, and comedy-drama Dark Shadows is likely to carry on that trend. Of working with his good friend, Depp explained, "Tim's a great friend and a brilliant director. If it hadn't been for Tim, I would probably be a minor actor working in horror B movies".
The new movie, which opens on Friday (May 11, 2012), is based on the cult television series of the 1960's and 1970's, about a melancholy vampire who wakes from his 200-year slumber in 1973.
