Alec Baldwin is in talks to star in 'Mission: Impossible 5'.

The '30 Rock' star could be making a big screen comeback opposite Tom Cruise in the next instalment of the spy thriller franchise.

Baldwin is being lined up to play the head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the new film, according to Deadline.

The role would be similar to the one played by Laurence Fishburne in earlier films.

The busy actor is also being considered for a role in Will Smith's new movie about concussions in American football and is developing a brand new TV show that he is to star in and produce.

'Mission: Impossible 5' is set to go into production imminently but producers - including J.J. Abrams - and director Christopher McQuarrie are still looking for a female lead after Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain turned down the part.

The film will reunite Cruise and McQuarrie, who worked together on 'Jack Reacher', which is also being considered for a sequel.

The action flick is expected to film in London and bosses were recently delighted when they were granted permission to film inside the Houses of Parliament.
