Tom Cruise may be having a turbulent week - having reportedly been 'blindsided' by Katie Holmes' decision to file divorce papers - though he can take solace in the positive reception to the trailer for his new movie 'Jack Reacher'.
The Mission: Impossible star plays a cop turned vigilante in the movie, based on one of the Lee Child's crime-drama books. He spends most of the trailer disposing of numerous thugs, driving fast cars and shooting guns. In one scene, he races through the streets in a red sports-car as a voiceover explains, "He doesn't care about proof, he doesn't care about the law. He only cares about what's right." Though the acquisition of Cruise is a clear coup for the makers of the movie, some fans of the book have raised questions of his suitability for the role of Reacher. The former policeman is described as a physically imposing man, who stands at 6'5" and boasts a 50-inch chest. The heavy usage of cars in the trailer may also disappoint fans of the original books, given that Reacher rarely drives a car, and prefers to hitchhike or catch a bus as he travels across America. Nevertheless, action-movie fans on Twitter appear to be perfectly happy with the trailer.
'Jack Reacher' hits cinemas in the U.S. on December 21, 2012, and in the UK on December 28, 2012.
