That didn't take long did it? Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' divorce has finally gone through, meaning the couple are officially single. The divorce case was closed on Monday (August 20, 2012) after a New York judge signed off the final judgement, according to court records obtained by E! News.
The news comes just a month-and-a-half after Tom Cruise was apparently "blindsided" by his wife Katie Holmes, who filed for divorce and sought sole custody of their six-year-old daughter Suri. The pair immediately entered negotiations - with some suggesting Tom wanted to limit the PR damage on the Church of Scientology - and a settlement was worked out in a matter of days. A source close to Cruise tells E! News that the actor is pleased that he's finally moving on, saying, "Tom is very happy and relieved that he is moving forward. His priority is being a good father and this settlement will make sure that continues". Cruise and Holmes began dating in April 2005 and a month later, the Mission: Impossible star proclaimed his love for the actress with an infamous appearance on Oprah Winfrey's show.
The pair tied the knot in November 2006 in a lavish Italian ceremony. Cruise has maintained his Hollywood stock since, though Holmes' once promising career nosedived.
