Tom Cruise hit the London capital for the UK premiere of Rock of Ages, last night (June 10, 2012). The legendary Top Gun actor paused on the red carpet to strike a few poses with his British co-star Russell Brand. Cruise plays the role of a long-haired rock star in the movie (based on the stage musical) and was in full-on Spinal tap mode in London, throwing some classic rock poses and doing the devil horns for the cameras.
He and Brand seemed to be getting on very well, with the Metro commenting that their bromance seems to be blossoming nicely. For the red carpet premiere, Brand seemed to be embracing his usual rock and roll look, whereas Tom had veered away from character and opted for a more toned down look, wearing jeans, a t-shirt and a dark jacket. And his aviators, just to remind everyone of the Top Gun days, of course. Co-star Malin Akerman stole the show last night, though, looking stunning in a cream coloured dress embroidered with gold sequins in the shape of leaves.
So far, the movie - which receives its mainstream release this week, has received positive feedback from the critics. It's an unusual move for Cruise to take on such a light-hearted role, with Huffington Post commenting that he's usually known for his "meaningful, hard-stared, jaw-clenched" dramatic performances. It seems as though he's pulled this one off, though, possibly spurred on by the success of his role in Tropic Thunder back in 2008.
