Veteran rocker Tom Petty is selling off his favourite sports car to raise funds for charity.
The generous singer/songwriter has placed his beloved 1996 Jaguar Xjs Convertible on online auction website eBay.com and plans to hand over the proceeds of the sale to officials at international aid organisation Doctors Without Borders.
In offering up the motor, Petty writes, "I have so many great memories associated with this car. When I began dating Dana, my wife, I asked her what her favorite car was. So I phoned the office and said I wanted a Champagne convertible Jaguar Xjs.
"The next day, they delivered it to my house and showed me how everything worked and I took it for a drive down the Pacific Coast Highway. I was in heaven, as was Dana. This car has such an incredible design. My favorite car I ever owned. We sure are going to miss it."
The winning bidder will also receive an autographed photo of Petty posing alongside the car.
The 10-day sale went live on Thursday (11Oct12) and at press time, the bid was at over $29,000 (Gbp18,100).
