British actor Tom Wilkinson has lashed out at sport stars who think they can have a glittering acting career with no proper training.

The FULL MONTY star, 57, is furious with the widespread belief that people can easily become a success on the stage or screen - because acting is a craft which needs as much talent and coaching as any other profession.

He fumes, "It p**ses me off when you hear footballers go, 'Yeah, well when I've finished with ARSENAL I'm going to be an actor for a bit.'

"It's a preposterous as it would be for me to say, 'Well, I'll have a couple of years off and play in the midfield for Manchester United.'"
