Netflix, which had appeared to be ditching its DVD-by-mail package, has notified its streaming customers that it will give them the mail package for one month free. The mail package includes newer movies and even many classics that are not available via the streaming service. Netflix is also offering all of its disc-only customers the streaming service free for one month. Meanwhile, Computer World magazine reported today (Tuesday) that some universities are trying to cope with a huge increase in demand on their networks, primarily spiked by Netflix's streaming users. Richard Pacheco, network systems manager at the Dartmouth campus of the University of Massachusetts, said that Netflix traffic drove usage up 50 percent last year, largely due to increased use of smartphones and tablets to receive Netflix content.
