Former supermodel Twiggy has slammed designers for using real fur during London Fashion Week (begs19Feb10), branding it "intolerably cruel".
The 60 year old has posed for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' (PETA) new ad campaign, which features the slogan, "If You Wouldn't Wear Your Dog, Please Don't Wear Any Fur."
And she's taking her new role seriously - she's called for fashion designers showing collections in the British capital not to include pelts, alleging the fur is taken from animals kept in "inhumane" conditions.
She says, "I am very sad that some designers are still using real fur when the fake alternatives are so effective and so easily obtainable. These poor animals are kept in such terrible and inhumane conditions. Is it really worth this cruelty just for fashion's sake? I don't think so."
Twiggy isn't the only famous face rallying against animal cruelty in fashion - Sharon Osbourne is urging her fans to boycott a range of foxtail handbag accessories designed by Louis Vuitton, branding the luxury goods "heinous".
