Veteran actress Valerie Harper has thanked fans for their "love and good wishes" since she went public with her brain cancer diagnosis.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show star has been told she could have just months to live after doctors discovered she had been struck down with a rare form of the disease, and she has vowed to use her remaining time to raise awareness for other cancer sufferers.

Harper, 73, has now reached out to fans and thanked them for the outpouring of support over the last few days since she spoke out about her condition.

In a post on her Facebook.com page, she writes, "Words simply can not express how the overwhelming out pouring of love and good wishes has touched my heart. To every single one of you who reached out to me expressing your concern through Twitter, Facebook, my website, via phone, text, email, cards, letters...

"I want to thank you for your beautiful support! Despite this devastating diagnosis, I'm feeling well, living normally and am forging a positive path forward!"
