Rockers Vampire Weekend have been slapped with a $2 million (£1.3 million) lawsuit over the cover of their latest album CONTRA - the model featured on the artwork insists she didn't sign over the rights to the photo.
Kristen Kennis, the blonde featured in the cover art, claims she took the original snap in 1983 and was completely unaware of the New York band's interest in the shot until she saw her younger self staring back at her in promotional posters for the album last year (Nov09).
She filed legal papers in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday (14Jul10), accusing photographer Tod Brady of providing Vampire Weekend with the picture without consulting her.
A consent form allowing the band permission to use the photo was purportedly signed by Kennis - but she insists the signature on the papers is a forgery.
She is suing Brady and Vampire Weekend, claiming the group should have fully verified the legitimacy of the picture release before using the shot on their album.
