Van Morrison To Pay $32,000 In Damages
Legendary singer Van Morrison has been ordered to pay a pub landlord $32,000 (GBP20,000) in damages after cancelling a concert last year (02).
The GLORIA star must also return a further $32,000 (GBP20,000) in performance fees to GARY MARLOW, although the decision about who has to pay the case's costs will be announced tomorrow (12NOV03).
Marlow told the court that revenue at the CROWN HOTEL in Everleigh, south-west England has plummeted from ($40,000) GBP25,000 to $11,200 (GBP7,000)-a-month as a result of the cancellation.
However, the judge attributed poor business management and Marlow's failure to refund $54,900 (GBP33,670) to ticketholders as the likely reason for the pub's damaged reputation and decreased profits, rather than the cancellation of the gig.
Marlow says, "I would like to say that I am absolutely thrilled that we have taken on one of the kings of rock and we have won.
"Unfortunately we didn't get what we should have had but nevertheless we have beaten him."11/11/2003 17:13
