Johnny Depp claims his children handled the break-up between him and their mother Vanessa Paradis really well.

The 50-year-old actor and the 40-year-old French singer-and-actress ended their 14-year relationship in 2012, but Depp insists their kids, Lily-Rose, 14, and 11-year-old Jack, were able to accept the split because the couple handled the situation with care and were honest with them.

Speaking on CBS TV show 'This Morning', Johnny said: ''When you have children, there is no room for lies, no room for anything but the truth. Anything other than that is a bad example, I believe.

''We were just very truthful with them and they were just incredibly understanding, incredibly accepting. I was extremely proud of them, the way they dealt with it.''

The 'Lone Ranger' star has been even more protective of his offspring since they entered the next decade of their lives because he wants to make sure they don't make the same mistakes he did at that age.

He explained: ''You know you start getting hit with some very interesting situations in life, you as a parent, when they approach that teenage era, which is frightening because you still have memories of that age and the things you were doing at that age ... Please don't do what I did.''
