Former SPICE GIRL Victoria Beckham is trouncing pop rival SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR in the race to top the British singles chart, although neither looks likely to displace current number one Mad World.

Industry insiders predict Victoria's double A-side THIS GROOVE/LET YOUR HEAD GO will go in at number three, while Sophie's I WON'T CHANGE YOU might not even make the top ten.

Instead, Gary Jules and MICHAEL ANDREW's cover of MAD WORLD is expected to cling onto the number one spot for the third week running.

A chart source says, "Early sales indications for this week suggest Victoria Beckham is likely to miss out yet again on that elusive number one single on a sales margin of around two to one.

"But if sales carry on as they are, her hit will be her most successful chart solo single to date."

In an effort to bolster sales, Victoria's soccer superstar husband DAVID BECKHAM is encouraging all his friends to buy the record.
