Country singer Vince Gill was a guest at a gala in Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday (13Oct11) to launch a week in his honour.
City officials have proclaimed 10-17 October (11) Vince Gill Week, to recognise his ongoing dedication to helping the local community.
Nashville Mayor Karl Dean says, "Vince Gill is a great musician, a great humanitarian and a great Nashvillian. His big heart is amazing, and his talent as a singer, songwriter and musician have made a remarkable mark on the city, and he does it with grace and humour...
"If there is a need in our community, Vince is always eager to step up and help. He truly embodies the spirit of generosity and charity that Nashville is known for. I am grateful for his many contributions."
Gill was presented with a special edition amplifier from Fender Guitars and it was revealed that as well as the week-long honour, the star will also serve as grand marshal of the 59th annual Nashville Christmas Parade on 2 December (11).
Speaking at the launch, Gill says, "This is beyond belief. More than anything, I just want to say that all of this is overwhelming to hear these accolades (sic), but at the end of the day, I guess what I'm most proud of, there wasn't one of those things that I did that had an agenda attached to it, just know that."
