The search for a new head of the Motion Picture Association of America has been complicated by the fact that the major studios are now controlled by conglomerates whose executives must also approve the selection, the Wall Street Journal observed today (Thursday). Although former Senator Chris Dodd is the current favorite to take the post -- which has remained empty for nearly a year -- a deal is by no means a certainty, the Journal suggested. Todd Flournoy, a former MPAA government affairs executive, told the newspaper that the current candidates realize that "they're beholden to a much more complicated set of pulls and pushes." Former MPAA chief Glickman echoed Flournoys word's, telling the Journal "The organization is more complicated than it used to be under Jack [Valenti]. It's not the easiest job in the world, but it's a great job."
