Quirky singer-songwriter Florence and the Machine has followed her Brit award win by being included in a list of the best tracks of 2008.

The London act - headed by Florence Welch - deflected competition from Little Boots and White Lies to claim the Critics' Choice prize for the 2009 Brit Awards last week.

And despite only being released a week ago, her track Dog Days Are Over has been named in a prestigious list of the top songs of the year.

The 2008 CMU track of the year poll is based on votes from readers of music industry bulletin the CMU Daily.

Thousands of people working across the music business and media cast their votes for the top ten, which also includes Mercury winners Elbow, I Kissed A Girl star Katy Perry and Scottish indie favourites Glasvegas.

"It's no secret that my personal vote this year went to MGMT, but there's been growing excitement over Florence & The Machine at CMU HQ for a while now - and she got our vote in the Brits Critics Choice poll - so we're really please to find out that CMU's readers are also rating Florence, and her new single in particular," said Chris Cooke, co-editor of CMU Daily.

"That said, she's up against some of the biggest tracks of the year in the second stage of the vote, including MGMT's Time To Pretend. I reckon it's going to be close, and it will be interesting to see who will win overall next week".

The top ten in the CMU Track of the Year poll is:

Alphabeat - Fascination
Elbow - One Day Like This
Foals - Cassius
Florence & The Machine - Dog Days Are Over
Glasvegas - Geraldine
Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor
Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl
MGMT - Time To Pretend
Sam Sparro - Black & Gold
Santogold - LES Artistes
